Our full-time ELI prepares you to function at an American college or university, either at the undergraduate or graduate level. Established in 1945, ELI is CUNY’s oldest English language school and the second oldest in the United States.
This location offers group Intensive (30 lessons per week), Semi-Intensive (20 lessons per week) and American Explorer (15 lessons per week) English programs. A TOEFL iBT Prep Program (30 lessons per week) is also available at this location. Students in the Intensive, Semi-Intensive & American Explorer English Programs offer instruction and practice in all key language skills: speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading & writing.

Por qué NYC es la Gran Manzana?
El término 'La Gran Manzana' se hizo popular en los años 20 gracias al cronista deportivo John J. Fitz Gerald (del New York Morning Telegraph) quien escuchó en 1921 cómo lo usaban los mozos de cuadra en el hipódromo de Nueva Orleans para referirse al hipódromo de Nueva York (al que consideraban el estrellato).
A Fitz Gerald le gustó tanto la expresión que llamó a su columna hípica 'Sobre la Gran Manzana'. En la introducción a su columna del 18 de Febrero de 1924, Fitz Gerald escribe: "La Gran Manzana. El sueño de todo chico que haya montado un pura sangre y el objetivo de todo jinete. Sólo existe una Gran Manzana y es Nueva York".
Durante la década de los años 30, era utilizado para referirse a la ciudad por los músicos de jazz, para los que tocar en Nueva York suponía su máximo objetivo: "son muchas las manzanas que tiene el árbol del éxito, pero Nueva York es la Gran Manzana".
No fue hasta 1971, cuando este sobrenombre se hizo famoso en todo el mundo por una campaña turística que realizó la ciudad.

New York City es posiblemente la ciudad más maravillosa del mundo. Antes de ir posiblemente seran muchas las expectativas y probablemente las superara totalmente al finalizar su visita allí. Es inevitable no ser fan de la capital de mundo. Únicamente el hecho de caminar por sus largas avenidas es toda una experiencia, la mirada siempre se dirige hacia arriba , atraída por la altura de sus edificios, la variedad de tienda y la diversidad cultural que se encuentra allí.
